What to Expect From a Ductless Mini Split System
Usually, a ductless mini-split package comes with an indoor and outdoor unit. The indoor unit is essentially the air handler that has some of the essential components of an HVAC system. This includes the evaporator coil, air filter, multi-speed fan and condensate drainage. This can be mounted either on the ceiling, wall or even on the floor. The indoor unit is also directly connected to the outdoor unit with a thin conduit that goes through a small hole in the wall.

The best location for your outdoor unit is any shaded area outside your home. It can be installed directly on the side of your home, as long as it isn’t too close to vegetation to ensure good airflow. Mounting it to an outside wall with stand-off mounting brackets is one of the many installation options to consider, but the installation should be done by an HVAC professional. They’ll make sure there’s enough space between the wall and the unit, and enough space above it.
As for the indoor unit, it can be installed just about anywhere in your home that requires comfort, be it a hard-to-condition bedroom or a new home addition without air ducts. If it is wall-mounted, it must be at least two inches from the ceiling.
